- **Göbekli Tepe raised, then buried** (c. 9600 BC) — Note · 18 September: Whether the enclosures were buried on purpose is now debated. The German Archaeological Institute team argues they were largely filled by slope slides and erosion, with the builders trying to hold them back.

- **The flood written into clay** (c. 2300 BC onward) — Dating note · 18 September: The oldest surviving flood narratives on clay (Atrahasis, the Sumerian flood story) are usually dated c. 1800–1600 BC; the c. 2300 BC start needs a source.

- **Cleisthenes; Socrates executed** (508/507 BC · 399 BC) — Correction · 18 September: Cleisthenes' reform (508/507 BC) to Socrates' execution (399 BC) is about 109 years, a little over a century.
  - The letter's words: Cleisthenes relocates rule from a seat to an assembly. Within a century the same city tries and executes Socrates for impiety.
- **Heraclitus and the logos** (c. 500 BC) — Correction · 18 September: Heraclitus (c. 500 BC) to John's Gospel (c. AD 90–100) is about six centuries, not five.
  - The letter's words: Heraclitus takes logos — a merchant's word for a reckoning, a ratio, an account — and hands it to the structure of the world.
- **Koine Greek** (333–323 BC and after) — Correction · 18 September: From Koine's spread (after 333 BC) to the Septuagint Torah (c. 280–250 BC) is fifty to eighty years, not a century.

  - The letter's words: The Septuagint renders both shemittah and deror with the single Greek word aphesis — the same word the documentary papyri use for ordinary commercial remission. The debt sense and the forgiveness sense are welded into one lexeme two centuries before any gospel uses it.
- **The papyrus embargo and parchment** (c. 197–159 BC) — Note · 18 September: The embargo story is Pliny's (Natural History 13.70, citing Varro), and historians treat it as doubtful. Writing on prepared skins is older than Pergamon, though the name parchment comes from it.

- **Hillel's prosbul** (c. 30 BC) — Correction · 18 September: Deuteronomy to Hillel is about twelve to fourteen centuries, not two thousand years; the Mishnah itself quotes Deuteronomy 15:9 as Hillel's reason (Shevi'it 10:3).

- **Bar Kokhba's contracts** (132/133 AD) — Note · 18 September: Four and a half centuries counts Josephus's story of Alexander in Jerusalem (Antiquities 11.338), which most historians judge unhistorical; on the firmest witnesses, from 163/162 BC, the span is about three centuries.
  - The letter's words: Rental contracts from the Bar Kokhba administration are dated against the sabbatical year. It is the sixth attestation and the last.
- **The Council of Tours** (813) — Note · 18 September: The page gives two spans from Tours (813) to the vernacular, seven hundred years here (to the Reformation) and eleven and a half centuries at row 194 (to the vernacular Mass of 1963). Both endpoints are real; they measure different things.

  - The letter's words: Four centuries of councils defining usury as a sin — and Lateran III conceding in its own text that the practice is so firmly rooted that many practise it as if it were permitted.
- **Valdes of Lyon condemned** (c. 1173 – 1184) — Correction · 18 September: The record condemns the Waldensians for preaching without licence (Lateran III, 1179; Verona, 1184); “condemned for translating” is the letter's reading.
  - The letter's words: Valdes of Lyon gives away his property, commissions vernacular gospels, and is condemned for translating.
- **Inter caetera; Pacioli; the Requerimiento** (1493 · 1494 · 1513) — Correction · 18 September: The Requerimiento was read in Spanish, which its readers spoke; the people it was read to did not understand it.
  - The letter's words: Inter caetera partitions the New World by papal bull. Pacioli prints double-entry bookkeeping. Spain adopts the Requerimiento — a legal text read aloud in a language nobody present spoke, to make conquest lawful.
- **Napoleon crowns himself** (2 December 1804) — Correction · 18 September: The ceremony was agreed in advance, and Napoleon took the crown from the altar, not from the pope's hands; and the 1804 referendum approved the hereditary empire, however its count was managed.
  - The letter's words: Pius VII travels to Notre-Dame to crown an emperor. Napoleon takes the crown from the pope's hands and puts it on his own head. David's canvas hangs in the Louvre with the arm still raised.
- **On the Origin of Species** (24 November 1859 → 1864) — Correction · 18 September: Nature was founded in 1869 by Norman Lockyer, not by Darwin's circle; Huxley wrote its opening article.
  - The letter's words: Origin of Species. Within a year Huxley argues it against Wilberforce at Oxford; by 1864 the X Club is formed and its members go on to run the Royal Society and found Nature.
- **The Roswell statement and its retraction** (8 July 1947 · 9 July 1947 · 1994) — Correction · 18 September: The retraction came the same day, 8 July 1947, at General Ramey's press conference; the papers ran it on 9 July.
  - The letter's words: The Roswell field issues a press release: a flying disc. The next day it is retracted as a weather balloon. In 1994 the Air Force names a classified balloon train, Project Mogul.
- **The partition of India** (15 August 1947 · 30 January 1948) — Correction · 18 September: The partition of Palestine was the UN's plan (Resolution 181), on which Britain abstained and which it did not carry out; and “roughly a million” deaths in India's partition is one estimate in a range from about 200,000 to 2 million.

- **The partition vote; the scrolls bought** (29 November 1947) — Correction · 18 September: Sukenik bought the scrolls from a dealer in Bethlehem on 29 November 1947, not in Jerusalem. Mar Athanasius Samuel had bought four earlier that year, the Great Isaiah Scroll among them, so the Isaiah scroll and the Ezekiel fragments were not bought that day.
  - The letter's words: The General Assembly votes partition, 33 to 13. The same day, in Jerusalem, Eleazar Sukenik acquires the first scrolls for the Hebrew University and writes the coincidence into his journal.
- **Kennedy's assassination and the two verdicts** (22 November 1963 · 1964 · 1979 · 1992) — Correction · 18 September: The 1992 JFK Records Act ordered the files released within twenty-five years unless the President postponed them; it did not seal them.
  - The letter's words: Kennedy shot. The Warren Commission finds one gunman. The House Select Committee finds probably, as a result of a conspiracy, on acoustic evidence the National Academy then rejects. The Records Act seals the file and schedules its release.
- **Vatican II: the vernacular; Nostra Aetate** (4 December 1963 · 28 October 1965) — Note · 18 September: Row 110 counts seven hundred years from Tours (813) to the Reformation; this row counts eleven and a half centuries from Tours to the vernacular Mass of 1963. Both endpoints are real; they measure different things.
