Accounts frozen without a court order

A G7 government orders financial institutions to cease dealing in the property of designated persons, and the operative text carries no requirement of a warrant, a court order, or any judicial authorisation. The public inquiry reports the threshold was met and finds no unreasonable-seizure breach, while calling the absence of any way to get delisted more troubling. Eleven months later the Federal Court holds the opposite: the failure to require that some objective standard be satisfied breached the guarantee against unreasonable seizure, and there was no standard applied, it was all informal and ad hoc. A Court of Appeal dismissed every government appeal in January 2026; leave to appeal further was sought in March.

In plain words

A G7 government orders banks to freeze the property of listed people with no warrant or court order; a public inquiry finds it lawful, and eleven months later a federal court finds it an unreasonable seizure, upheld on appeal in January 2026. The switch was thrown and reversed on the public record, and the case is still live.

The mechanism

THE EXCLUSION SWITCH, DEMONSTRATED AND REVERSED — accounts frozen by instruction, with no judge in the loop. The order was revoked nine days after the emergency was declared and the courts eventually said no: a system with a working immune response, and a system that has now demonstrated on the public record exactly how the throw is performed

How it was checked
