A decree of Caesar Augustus sends Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem, the city of David. Jesus is born there and laid in a manger, and shepherds in the fields are the first to be told.
KJV (Luke 2:7): “And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.”
