The Umayyad caliph Abd al-Malik built the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount; an inscription inside dates it to 72 AH (691–692), and it is the oldest surviving Islamic monument. Its inscriptions stress the unity of God and reject the Christian doctrines of the Trinity and of Jesus' divinity.
