The Roswell statement and its retraction

The Roswell field issues a press release: a flying disc. The same day it is retracted as a weather balloon. In 1994 the Air Force names a classified balloon train, Project Mogul.

In plain words

The Roswell airfield announces a flying disc, then retracts it within hours as a weather balloon; in 1994 the Air Force names a secret balloon project, Mogul. What the record holds here is the retraction, not the disc: an official statement withdrawn inside a day and re-explained forty-seven years later.

The mechanism

THE SKY GOING LOUD, FIRST INSTANCE — AND THE RETRACTION IS THE DATUM — what the record establishes is an official statement withdrawn inside a day and re-explained forty-seven years later. This row carries the retraction, not the disc
