Why it had to be grace and could not have been anything else. Two constraints, four enumerated failures, one move left.
Geometry, The ledger: A reading: the gain in the ledger needs grace from outside the system. Nothing inside can supply it, which is why grace is the one move left.
In plain words
It had to be grace: keep human freedom and keep the human race, and every other move fails. Extermination was sworn off at the rainbow, control destroys freedom, bloodlines cannot repair a person and law cannot cure what it names, so grace, bearing the cost and offering the result, is the one move left, and people's refusing it shows their will was left free.
The mechanism
THE ONLY MOVE IN THE SET — extermination fails the species constraint and was formally retired at Genesis 9. Control fails the free-will constraint and manufactures compliance, which is the counterfeit's own method. Lineage management can protect a line and cannot repair a person. Law is explicit about its own limit: a diagnosis is not a cure. Absorption satisfies the second constraint because nothing is destroyed to pay except what pays; offering satisfies the first because an offer can be declined — and this one demonstrably is, constantly, which is the evidence the will was left intact
